Project 2

Module 2

For Module 2, I chose the laser-cut map. On the formstorming stage, I explored our campus environment and learned about how to use the effective tool - Mapbox. After experiences of laser cutting workshop, I found it interesting and effective in storytelling. Additionally, turning digital design into physical products is also a satisfing process.

Spatial Workshop 1

A set of neatly arranged tables and chairs in the SSU building
Project Video Link
Some tables and chairs outside the SSU building

A corner of a bench between D wing and AA wing

Spatial Workshop 2

For the picnic area outside of the SSU building, I added an umbrella by the side of the table. No matter the sun is burning or it's raining outside, I thik this makes students would like to stay at here better.
Project Video Link
I added a garbage can at the edge of the picnic area. People can throw their garbage there making the environment better.

I added a flower bed by the bench. Since this corner looks like a comfortable area where people can enjoy sitting, reading or chatting, I would like to make it more aesthetic. The flower makes people feel happier.

Project 2

Final Project 2 Design

My final design is a laser-cut map of Wuyi Square in the center of my hometown city, Changsha.

Wuyi Square is a compelling site to represent as a laser cutting map because of its rich spatial layering. The neighborhood contains dense commercial blocks, open public spaces, and complex street networks that show how the city has developed historically. I kept as many buildings as possible. I know it may seem overwhelming, but that's exactly what I want to express. This is where my hometown is so full of human warmth and development vitality.
